Participation is a right and this briefing is about using participation in information gathering during research, monitoring and evaluation with children and young people. While there is plenty of practical help for those engaged in projects, advocacy and policy making, the purpose of this briefing is to steer the reader towards sources of information rather than detailed descriptions of particular pieces of work. The topics cover: · good practice and ethics, including how to draw in perspectives of the very young; · methods and tools, such as role play, groups and storyboards; · how to involve young people and children in different parts of the research process, including training techniques; · carrying out participatory monitoring and evaluation with young people and children, including training for evaluators; · sources of information both specific and general and Internet sites; and · ethical codes.
