COMPLAINTS MECHANISM: Human Rights Council adopts CRC complaints mechanism

The UN Human Rights Council has adopted the final draft Optional Protocol on a communications procedure for children’s rights violations crafted by an intergovernmental working group over ten days in December 2010 and February 2011. The new protocol will enable the Committee on the Rights of the Child to examine communications from children and their representatives alleging violations of their rights.

Les exemples peuvent concerner l'enseignement primaire ou secondaire, y compris les instituts de formation des enseignants.

[New York, 13 February 2006]- On February 6th and 7th, Member States resumed negotiations on the new Co-Chair's Text on the Human Rights Council. While governments may be reaching some agreement on the contentious issues in bilateral negotiations, progress was not evident in the plenary discussions, which once again highlighted persisting divisions. Member states have been pushed to reach agreement this week in order for the Council to replace the Commission this year.

The Second World Congress on Children's and Young People's Rights opened this morning in Lima, Peru. Among the participants are government ministers, representatives of NGOs and some 415 children from Latin America, Africa and Europe. Millions of children with disabilities are in danger of being written out of a new UN Convention, Save the Children warns this week. The charity fears that the UK Government is about to endorse a draft Convention which could leave millions of disabled children around the world at risk by ignoring their needs.
