Campaigns and Petitions

CRIN is part of a campaign to encourage governments to ratify the Domestic Workers Convention. Adopted by the International Labour Organisation in 2011, this unprecedented Convention will help protect children currently working as domestic workers and, ultimately, to eliminate child domestic labour.

CRIN together with other partners has launched a campaign for the prohibition and elimination of inhuman sentencing of children - defined to include sentences of death, life imprisonment and corporal punishment.

The UN campaign for Universal Ratification of UN Optional Protocols (OP) on children's rights was launched on 25 May 2010. This is a two-year campaign to achieve universal ratification of the OP on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC) and the OP on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC).

This campaign aims to encourage Member States of the Council of Europe - and beyond - to ratify the Lanzarote Convention. It also aims to raise awareness among European children, parents, and the public at large about sexual violence in a child-friendly manner with the Underwear Rule. Read more here

There are currently several “parenting manuals” available to buy on Amazon, the world’s biggest bookseller, that advise parents to train and condition their children into obedience using rods, paddles, or other similar  implements. The books advise using these methods on small children and even infants under the age of one.

Past Campaigns and Petitions

In a Resolution adopted at its 13th session in March 2010, the Human Rights Council (HRC) has given the go-ahead to draft a communications procedure under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The CRC is the last UN Convention to create such a mechanism. Join the campaign. Read the resolution.

In June 2010 the ILO will discuss new global instruments to ensure safe working conditions for domestic workers. 'A Call for Global Protections for Child Domestic Workers' Campaign was started by Anti-Slavery International, Human Rights Watch, and Save the Children to give special consideration to child domestic workers. National, regional, and international NGOs are invited to sign the petition.

Launched in September 2008, the campaign to end the juvenile death penalty was signed by 815 organisations. The campaign called upon each UN Member State to implement an absolute ban on the juvenile death penalty as requested by customary law, the CRC, the International Convenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and highlighted in the UN Study on violence against children.

Launched in May 2007 and signed by 1,446 organisations, the campaign requested UN Member States to act at the 2007 General Assembly to establish a Special Representative to the Secretary-General on Violence against Children (SRSG-VAC). At the 62nd session of the GA in New York a resolution to create the SRSG-VAC was adopted by a vote of 183 to 1, with the US voting against and no abstentions.
