Further details:

Life sponsors more than 1000 orphans in Iraq, this number is increasing to cover governorates. In addition to Iraq, we also have orphanages in Afghanistan and Sierra Leone. Sponsorship includes providing monthly food baskets to orphan families, supplying clothes four times a year in addition to covering health care when needed.

The organisation also held Eid Al Fitr and Adhaa celebrations for orphans and poor children in many of Iraq’s provinces and with an attendance of more than 3000 children; the children were given gifts, food and entertainment.

The organisation completed a scientific study on street children with a documentary film on the phenomenon. Life along with other organisations and the Ministry of Labour & Social Affairs are setting up a large conference to treat this phenomenon. Representatives from the concerned ministries and NGO’s working in this field will be invited to attend.

LIFE completed a scientific report on  “The Rights of the Child in the Iraqi Constitution”

Program Locations:

Iraq: LIFE established the orphan sponsorship program after the 1991 Gulf War and the lengthy embargo on Iraq. This program has supported hundreds of children all over Iraq and provided them with crucial services such as education, health care, and daily living expenses.

Afghanistan: LIFE operates two full-time orphanages where the orphans also go to school, and whose graduates are among the top in the nation. The schools are located in Jalalabad and Laghman. LIFE has also made a commitment to sponsor a girls’ orphanage, which is home to 150 girls.

Sierra Leone: Due to the thousands of causalities and mutilations during the civil war years, a large percentage of Sierra Leone’s youth were orphaned. Since 1996, LIFE has made a commitment to care for and support the orphan children. The orphanage provides food, clothing housing, medical care, and education for the girls and boys of Sierra Leone.
