The Council of Europe programme “Building a Europe for and with children” counts amongst its objectives the improvement of children’s access to justice.

The objective of the conference “International Justice for Children” will be to examine the functioning of international instruments and monitoring mechanisms dealing with children rights, highlight landmark decisions, analyse evolution and identify trends. It will assess children’s access to those mechanisms, identify obstacles and ways to remove them and discuss the principles of a child friendly justice at international level. The conference will also be a platform for an exchange of views and expertise between members of the various monitoring bodies from different regions in the world and participants will be invited to identify issues that can be put forward at the 27th Conference of European Ministers of Justice (Lanzarote, 25-26 October 2007).

The Conference will gather around 60 participants including
1. Judges of relevant International Courts
2. Members of treaty-based monitoring bodies
3. Ombudspersons
4. Representatives of NGOs, international law firms and academia
5. Intergovernmental organisations

The conference will address three main topics:
1. Milestones in international justice for children
2. Access of children to International Justice
3. Child friendly Justice at international level

Interested experts and organisations are kindly invited to express their wish to participate as soon as possible, but no later than 30 August 2007, by sending this form to the conference Secretariat. In view of the limited capacity of the meeting room, the Council of Europe secretariat cannot ensure that an invitation will be extended to all those having expressed their interest to attend.
