Further details:

We prioritise children at risk, and whose rights are most infringed. Who these children are is determined through a local analysis that takes into consideration which children run a greater risk of having their rights violated:

- Children that are neglected or abandoned by their family

- Children that are discriminated against on grounds of gender, disability, sexual orientation, HIV/AIDS, or for ethnic, religious, or social reasons

- Children that live in poverty

- Children that are adversely affected by war, armed conflict, and other disasters

- Children that are exposed to exploitation, violence, and other forms of abuse

- Children in hazardous work, who are exposed to sexual abuse or trafficking

Our work is guided by the principals set in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, applicable at all times including during armed conflict and natural disasters.

Work Methods

We follow four-working methods to achieve sustainable improvements in children’s lives, and encourage societies we work in to respect, protect, and realise children’s rights.

- Research and analysis: our work is based on active monitoring and analysis of developments, in addition to current research on practical experience. We support and implement surveys, evaluations, studies, as well as develop and test methods and tools.

- Direct support: we implement such projects for children at risk in order to increase awareness and knowledge of certain issues, or in connection with disasters.

- Knowledge dissemination and capacity-building: we support key players through capacity building in areas related to children’s rights, development, legislation, policy, methods, and approaches to work. Save the Children Sweden facilitates knowledge dissemination, information sharing, and provides a forum for meetings. Our partner organisations are strengthened by reinforcing their skills in organisational development, planning and evaluation, management and financing. We also give special attention to capacity building of children and youth who want to involve themselves.

- Advocacy and awareness raising: our role is to influence attitudes and perceptions in society in addition to economic and political decisions as regards children’s rights. We support and implement campaigns, lobby decision-makers and authorities, as well as public facts and report on child rights violations while demanding for change.
