This Shadow Report Child Soldiers 2013 provides supplementary information on the Third and Fourth State Report of the Federal Republic of Germany on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
and the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict. The key aspects are:
o Recruitment of 17-year olds into the German armed forces and inadequate promotion activities in schools and at other occasions – sometimes addressing children as young as 8-10 years old
o German arms exports (including small arms) to conflict countries where they may end up in the hands of child soldiers
o Inadequate asylum procedures for unaccompanied minor refugees restricting for example the access to psychological counseling centers or appropriate accommodation
