Children's Ombudsperson
An Ombudsperson was established in 1999, but the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern in its Concluding Observations of 2005 that the mandate and human and financial resources were inadequate to deal with complaints filed by or on behalf of children. The Committee urged the State to establish, as a matter of priority, an independent monitoring body, or a division within the existing ombudsperson's office to address children's rights.
