Why do we want children and youth to be part of our movement?

The Child and Youth Finance movement puts the children and youth's right to financial education and access at the forefront. We think children and youth have the power to affect decision-making processes. Therefore, we are building a Youth Global Movement in which children and youth can make their voices heard and take action in reshaping the future of finance.

How does CYFI involve children and youth?

In order to get the active involvement of children and youth CYFI is organizing a Global Award Championship. Schools, community centers and young people all over the world are welcome to join the Movement and get one of our exclusive Awards in these three categories:

  • School Champion Awards, acknowledging those schools and educational institutions that have made the strongest effort in promoting Financial Access and Education for children and youth.
  • Youth Champion Awards, acknowledging the best projects carried out by children and youth promoting Financial Education and Financial Inclusion.
  • Child and Youth Finance Day/Week Champion Awards, acknowledging the school or organisation implementing the best activities during the Global Child and Youth Finance Day/Week, which will take place from the 15th to the 21st of March.

There will be one global winner and five regional winners for each Award category.

How to participate in the Global Award Championship?

Participants are requested to present their innovative projects and ideas on any of these five topic areas:

  • Financial Education: offering the opportunity to children and youth to learn about finance at school or other social settings.
  • Banking and Savings: promoting child-friendly banking services.
  • Employment: promoting orientation towards future careers and driving the attention on how to solve unemployment
  • Entrepreneurship: providing students with the capability to evaluate risks and opportunities and develop innovative skills and attitudes.
  • Technology: teaching how to use technology to help children and youth acquire knowledge on financial education and access.

Further information about the Awards and the application forms to participate can be found a www.financeandme.org.

All applications for the School Champion Award and the Youth Champion Award should be submitted by the 25th February 2013.

Application for the ChildFinance Day/Week Award should be submitted by the 25th March 2013.

Why to participate in this Global Award Championship?

By participating in this Championship you will become part of our Global Movement to enhance financial education and financial access. In addition, the best entries from each category will get an exclusive invitation to attend the CYFI Youth Summit 2013, which will take place from the 6th to the 9th of May 2013 at the Istanbul Stock Exchange. During this event, children and youth will get the exciting opportunity to discuss their ideas and concerns on financial education and inclusion with policy makers, bank representatives and education experts, as well as with other children and youth that are active in the same field. It will also be a great opportunity to meet other children and youth from all over the world and participate in fun and interesting activities around Financial Inclusion.

What will happen after the Summit?

Children and youth attending the 2013 Youth Global Summit will become part of CYFI's Youth Global Movement and become a spokesperson for their financial rights. They will also get the chance to attend high profile events and present their opinions about youth access to influential representatives from relevant fields.

I am a radio presenter on 91.9FM Uganda and host a children's show. I love this programme and hope to endorse it in schools and churches to get them to participate.
