Children's Ombudspersons

The Office of the Ombudsman of Solomon Islands is established by Chapter IX of the national Constitution and the Ombudsman (Further Provisions) Act. The mandate of the office includes investigating complaints against public officials listed within section 5 of the Ombudsman (Further Provisions) Act. In its Concluding Observations of 2003, the Committee on the Rights of the Child noted the existence of an ombudsperson in Solomon Islands, but expressed concern that “the entity has neither the expertise nor the mandate, nor the human and financial resources, to receive, investigate and respond to individual complaints about violations of children's rights either within the Ombudsman's Office or separately.”
