Summary:
This report provides supplementary information on Norway's fourth periodic report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In Part 1 we give several critical comments to Norway’s report with regard to the Child Protection system. We show that current practices in the Norwegian Child Protection System are incompatible with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Norwegian state thereby violates the rights of many children to grow up in their natural family environment. In Part 2 we suggest remedial measures to strengthen child and family rights.

I just read the fourth periodic report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child from January 2009, and it states in a clear way all of my thoughts concerning how child services operate in Norway, which together with the legal system, seems to be the worst offender in violating the rights of children in the country. Major changes do need to happen in Norway concerning how child services operate and it should be easier for lawyers to sue child services and the government when they are in breach of the laws protecting children. We need greater awareness concerning this issue. A dramatic overhauling in child services and the legal system is needed to protect the rights of children in Norway. We propose to do this politically and through media exposure.
