Child rights NGOs in Southeast Asia have expressed their disappointment over the lack of protection mandate as reflected in the terms of reference of the ASEAN Human Rights Body, which is now officially called the ASEAN Inter-government Commission on Human Rights. The statement urges governments in Southeast Asia to ensure that the regional human rights commission would develop and implement a programme of work to protect rights of children.
