Established in 2005 by the UN Security Council, the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism is a groundbreaking step in the protection of children.

Four years on, Save the Children UK has conducted a global study to see what impact this mechanism has had on children’s lives.

This new report outlines our key findings and puts forward recommendations for how its impact could be enhanced, particularly in three areas:

* developments in international policy debates and processes
* changes in the behaviour of duty-bearers and parties to conflict, and
* changes in children’s lives

The report concludes with key recommendations for policy-makers and practitioners engaged in assisting children affected by armed conflict.
