The Task Force to Protect Children from Sexual Exploitation in Tourism is holding its next consultative meeting in London on 6 November 2006 (2:30 - 5:30 pm), in connection with this year's edition of the World Travel Market (WTM).
This Task Force meeting will feature both a thematic session on THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE TOURISM INDUSTRY IN THE CAMPAIGN TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM SEXUAL EXPLOITATION IN TOURISM (SECT) and a REPORTING SESSION on related child exploitation issues.
The meeting is open to national tourism administrations, international organisations, tourism industry, NGO and media representatives who wish to exchange information and experiences on ways to prevent SECT and learn about current programmes and actions related to child protection through tourism.
The report of the previous Task Force meeting (Berlin, 10 March 2006) may be viewed and printed from our website by clicking on www.unwto.org/protect_children/reunions/berlin_2006/berlin.pdf
Moreover, the World Committee on Tourism Ethics recently accepted the Task Force (through its ExCom) as its advisory body on child protection issues related to tourism. The World Committee has, however, recommended the Task Force to broaden its scope to cover all forms of child exploitation that may affect the tourism sector (e.g., sexual, labour, trafficking, etc). The discussion on the implications of expanding the mandate of the Task Force is part of the agenda of the meeting in London.
