The Philippines: Impact of copyright rules on access to education
This report provides supplementary information on The Philippines 3rd and 4th consolidated reports on the implementation of the CRC. It discusses the impact of the copyright rules on the affordability of text books and the enjoyment of the right to education. Stringent copyrights rules tend to increase the prices on books and hamper access to education. Therefore, it is very important that domestic legislation provides sufficient flexibilities to ensure access to text books and other teaching materials for all Filipino children and students.

CRC 39: Committee Warns About FTA Threats to Access to Affordable Medicines and Social Services for the Poor (9 June 2005)
The Committee warned that Free Trade
Agreements (FTAs) may negatively affect
access to affordable medicines and social
services for the poor. It raised these concerns
as a number of the countries (including Costa
Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua and the Philippines)
monitored at its 39th Session are either
planning, negotiating or in the process of
ratifying FTAs.
