The European Conference on Traumatic Stress (ECOTS) will convene for the tenth time in June 2007, to bring together practitioners and leading international researchers working in trauma related areas. 
 
The theme of the 10th ECOTS is “Truth and Trust After Trauma”. The issue of truth is linked to memory issues and different perspectives trauma survivors may have, as well as seeking to restore the course of events. Trust is associated with the disrupting effect of trauma on attachment and the fueling of distrust; it is also related to the recent fear of terrorism in Western Europe; last but not least, trust is a central issue for trauma survivors who are struggling with the question of whether or not they should engage in treatment, if they can trust their therapists, and their fellow human beings in general.

While the conference theme will be used to highlight certain issues, it will not be exclusive. The general aim will be to better understand what trauma survivors are struggling with, and how to treat them. Apart from looking into the devastating effects of trauma, the conference will also address issues such as resilience, post-traumatic growth, forgiveness, and altruism. A wide range of topics will be addressed: from basic research in neurobiology and traumatic memory, to the consequences of early and complex traumatization, epidemiology, new treatment options, community interventions, prevention and policy making. Of special interest will be recommended best practice when working with diverse populations exposed to a variety of traumatic events such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, disasters, traffic accidents, organized violence, aid work or military service.

The program formats will include keynote lectures, symposia, workshops, panel discussions and poster sessions. The conference will open on 6th June, 2007 in the afternoon. However, a series of pre-conference workshops will provide half day training and skills building program on specific topics related to traumatic stress starting on the 5th June.
