The International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was held yesterday, 4 April 2007.
In a message delivered in New York, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said the day served as a reminder that landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to claim 15,000 new victims each year, but also as "an occasion to take stock of the progress in common efforts to combat the scourge of landmines and explosive remnants of war."
Find out how much you know about the effects of landmines and explosive remnants of war with this week's quiz.
