Organisation aims and activities: The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research is a non-profit research organisation.

Further details:

It covers a number of Programme Areas: Follow-up to the World Summit for Social Development/ Dialogues in Social Theory and Policy-making; International Migration, Social Integration, and Human Rights; Health and Welfare; Ageing, Care Policies, and Social Services; Childhood and Society, and Social Welfare Modelling and the European Centre Information Centre. The Programme on Childhood, established by Helmut Wintersberger in 1988, focuses on childhood and youth research as well as on childhood and youth policies. Special emphasis has always been put on children´s rights - influenced by the Convention of the Rights of the Child adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations (1989). The activities of the programme therefore concentrate on children´s living conditions with a view to social and economic developments. Numerous activities in this area have been undertaken since the start of the programme: research projects (e.g. the large-scale international project "Childhood as a Social Phenomenon") as well as networking and dissemination through publications, expert meetings and workshops.
