Supplementary information is provided on Ghana’s 2nd periodic report on the implementation of the UN CRC. It commends the State for an adequate legislative framework for children. It raises concerns on the lack or ineffective implementation of policies and laws; weak capacity of State institutions; lack of adequate data; poverty affecting the realization of child rights; absence of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess interventions for children; and the need for full commitment to good governance, the rule of law, equality, non-discrimination and citizen participation in development.

The Ghana NGO Coalition on the Rights of the Child, having studied the Revised Draft Outcome Document of the Special Session entitled, 'A World Fit for Children' strongly feels that all the key issues affecting children that should be reflected in the goals, strategies and actions for implementation in the next decade, has not been fully addressed.

The Government of Ghana's report cites economic problems i.e. inadequate national resources, hostile economic environment among others as being militating factors to the full realisation of the provisions of the convention.
